After reading The Foot Book, we measured different objects in the classroom, using small, medium, and large feet as our units of measurement. It was interesting to see how our results changed based on the size of foot using to measure! This was also a fun partner activity!
Mrs. Viall is a proud tree-hugger (what better way to serve God than to take care of the earth HE created for us??) and one of her favorite books is The Lorax. We had fun making our own colorful truffula trees -- and then eating them! First we measured out scoops of fruity rice cereal, then added melted marshmallows.
Next we stirred. (And stirred and stirred ...)
Each child got a truffula scoop and a popsicle stick, and we tried crafting them into round trees. It was a sticky mess, but the kids seemed to have fun!
Another Lorax activity involved STEM -- we used pop cubes to see who could build the tallest free-standing truffula tree. Not all of these were truly freestanding, but the students' efforts were impressive!
This guy is a budding engineer ... for real!
And Mr. K won a lot of points for creativity ... instead of building one tall tree, he created an entire forest!
After reading One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, Mrs. Viall's math group used colored goldfish crackers as part of a graphing activity.
I think we all can agree, K5 has some of the coolest kids ... I mean, cats ... around! 😊
