V is for VOTE

To mark the November election, K5 had its own election. But rather than voting for a senator or governor, we voted for our favorite fruits, sports, and animals! Each student received a ballot divided into three sections; in one section, they selected their favorite animal (cat or dog), in the others they chose their favorite fruit (apple, banana, or orange) and their favorite sport (baseball, soccer, or basketball).

Sample ballot which we later used to tally the results.

Next, they waited in line for their turn in the voting booth!

Once their ballots were complete, each student left the voting booth and placed their ballot into the ballot box.

We tallied the results and waited eagerly to see the winners ... just like in a real election!

It's never too early to start learning how important our voting process is, and our kindergartners loved this hands-on lesson!
