Using our five senses

As part of a recent "All About Me" unit, coupled with Bible lessons on God's creation, we spent an afternoon outside using our five senses. (Well, four senses ... not a good idea to taste random things on the playground! 😄 ) We closed our eyes and listened, then drew pictures of what we heard -- cars and birds were two of the most commonly heard things. We did the same for smells, and then we looked around and drew what we saw.

Feeling the bark on the tree.

Some of the students even closed their eyes to see what they could feel!

Mrs. Viall is a big advocate of being outside whenever possible ... including during our instructional time. (Read the book Last Child in the Woods if you want a harrowing look at how important nature is for children.) Being in God's green spaces helps improve our moods ... and it's just plain fun!
