The results ...

The results are in! After Thursday's experiment in removing chlorophyll from a leaf, we all came in to school Friday morning eager to see what had happened.

It worked! Some were darker than others, but all of our filter strips contained at least some green(ish) chlorophyll!

I loved seeing the students' excitement as they entered the classroom on Friday!

Later that day, when it was time for science, each child was allowed to get his or her cup and remove the filter strip. Most strips had dried out, although a couple were still wet. We held the test strip up against a clean white filter to note how much it had changed.

We also examined the dried leaves. Although all were still green, we were able to see lighter places where the green had faded. We hypothesized that this was where the rubbing alcohol pulled the chlorophyll out of the leaves.

Isn't science cool?!?!?
